How I Destroyed a Heartbreaking Memory

And Managed to Get It Back

I destroy everything.

No matter what, if I owned something meaningful, life would work against me until it was lost or destroyed.

I thought this would be different.

My Great Aunt was dying.

I didn’t know.

The last time I saw her, she asked me to take one item from her house that made me think of her. I was so young that it felt like Christmas day. In the end, I picked a Beanie Baby. A small, dotted Dalmatian just felt like something that should be loved and cared for.

And oh, did I love that thing.

Side note:
I had a beautiful stage-like mirror in my childhood bedroom that was the perfect place for doing makeup. The bulbs came inches away from the counter. If left on for too long, they got scorching hot. I kept the beanie baby on that countertop.

My Great Aunt died soon after.

It was the first death I ever experienced and, even though I was sad, the love that I felt for that Beanie Baby was…
