I’ve read over 20 books a year for the past three years. This year, things were different. I read only 10. Despite my soul-crushing disappointment, I read some fantastic books this year. Here are the ones that stood out the most.

1. Circe

Summary

Set during the Greek Heroic Age, it is an adaptation of various Greek myths, most notably the Odyssey, as told from the perspective of the witch Circe. (via Wikipedia)

Thoughts

Circe had the most exciting premise I’ve read in a long time. It felt like a love story to Greek mythology and an incredible follow-up to her debut novel Song of Achilles. I’ve mentioned my experience with loneliness before, and reading the tale of Circe hit close to home. I would suggest this book to everyone.

2. The Golden Compass
