Time Blocking: How It Works
Check out my video on Time Blocking here:
It is not easy getting things done, especially when you feel you are being pulled in a thousand different directions. Sometimes, you want to pull the blanket over your head and shut out all the excess noise. It’s much easier than facing it, right? While that may be true, avoiding responsibilities at home or work leave you feeling unaccomplished. You may have ducked it for a moment, but it always catches up with you. It piles and piles on until your life feels like a disorganized mess.
Take a deep breath. There is an answer to all of your problems:
Time blocking.
When I first heard about time blocking, I thought the idea was too simple and obvious to create any real solutions. The basic idea is that you organize your day down to the hour and, when that hour comes around, you tackle whatever task has been “blocked off” for that allotted time.
You can time block in whatever way feels best to you. Some like a hand-written schedule, I personally prefer the app TimeTune. It’s a free Android app that blocks your day off, using tools such as templates, tags sorted into different colors, and more in-depth descriptions to help your day feel neat and organized.
Try it. You’ll find yourself scrolling through the app in your free time to make sure your on schedule, and find that long-term and creative projects get done at a more productive and consistent pace. After all, if you feel your life is in complete disarray, a little time blocking couldn’t hurt.
