Have you ever wanted to be in an RPG? Now you can. In the app Habitica, available for iOS and Android, you create your own character and complete tasks to earn XP.

This app is so much fun to use. I find myself more motivated to take on challenges when I am able to log my work into Habitica, and thus slowly leveling up my character.

What is Habitica?

You start off by creating a character.

My Habitica character

Now, set your Habits, Dailies, To Do’s, and Rewards.

Habits

Habits are — well — habits. They are actions you wish to perform more or less of. When you fail a habit (or one of your Dailies) your character will lose health.

Dailies

Tasks that will repeat each day. This could be as simple as doing the dishes or going to work.

To-Do’s

Things you only need to complete once.

Rewards

When you obtain gold from leveling up and completing the tasks above, you can spend it under Rewards. These items will help you in battle.

Wait, battle?

Yes, battle. You can form a party with your friends and battle creatures such as feral dust bunnies. There is even a tavern where you can rest and chat with other Habitica users.

Why should I care?

via Habitica Wiki

Habitica is a fantastic way to keep your life in check and see real progress along the way. You’ll obtain new pets, armor, and even unlock animated avatar backgrounds. While Time Blocking is great for sorting your day by the hour, Habitica is preferable to those who enjoy seeing long-term progress and receiving rewards. On good days, you’ll feel really accomplished. If you get lost along the way, try the wiki.

Give it a shot. On the road to productivity, it’s important to try different methods to find what works for you — even if that means battling feral dust bunnies.
